ISLAMABAD: Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), led a team visited the National Defence University (NDU) to congratulate Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor on his appointment as the university’s President. The delegation consisted of Faad Waheed, Senior Vice President of the ICCI, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Group Leader, Zafar Bakhtawari, former President of the ICCI and Secretary General of UBG Pakistan, and Ajmal Baloch, President of All Pakistan Anjuman Tajaran.
Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor, President of the National Defense University Islamabad, spoke to the delegation and lauded the business community’s critical role in the country’s economic progress. He suggested that Pakistan’s business community should invest in the country’s underdeveloped areas, such as Balochistan, to improve local infrastructure, create new jobs, eradicate poverty, and bring prosperity to the people. He urged that the business community should fully engage with the incoming government and make ideas to create a favorable business environment so that, via public-private sector cooperation, Pakistan can be lifted out of its problems and set on a path of long-term economic prosperity. Speaking at the event, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stressed that Pakistan’s security and progress are based on a strong economy, and that the business community will work with the government to improve the economy. He advised that ICCI be given a permanent seat in the National Security Workshop, and that ICCI members be invited to key NDU programs to share their success stories in order to stimulate students. He noted that, in collaboration with NDU, ICCI will work to organize a seminar for the benefit of students.
Faad Waheed, Senior Vice President of ICCI, complimented NDU’s efforts in education and research to develop future leaders in the public and private sectors, assuring the university of the business community’s support in advancing its mission and goals.
Khalid Iqbal Malik, Group Leader ICCI, Zafar Bakhtawari, former President and Secretary General UBG Pakistan, and Ajmal Baloch, President All Pakistan Anjuman Tajaran, all spoke at the event, stating that the business community will always support the government’s efforts to make Pakistan a strong economy in the region.
