Warsaw: Robert Lewandowski dreams of an “emotional” return to Germany in 2024, where he enjoyed a successful playing career before moving to Barcelona.
The 35-year-old Polish striker first impressed at Borussia Dortmund and then at Bayern Munich, winning the Bundesliga ten times between 2010 and 2022.
Lewandowski, who also won the Champions League with Bayern in 2020, scored 312 goals in 384 Bundesliga matches, becoming the top scorer behind Bayern legend Gerd Mueller.
He also holds the joint record of seven Bundesliga goal awards with Mueller.
“For me, it’s emotional, you can say you’re coming back to my country where you lived and played in that stadium for so many years,” Lewandowski told Polish television station TVN.
He added that he will come “with a positive attitude and a smile on my face, so grateful for where I am, not only in life, but in my career.”
But Poland will face a tough challenge in Germany after narrowly securing a Euro spot after losing on penalties to Wales in the play-offs.
They have also faced challenges with rapidly changing leadership, having gone through five coaches in the past three years.
