Large non-filers and individuals underreporting taxable income have come under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s radar.
According to FBR sources, preparations are underway to take action against tax evaders across the country. Data on millions of large non-filers and those underreporting taxable income will be shared with field formations. Following approval from the FBR Chairman, notices will be issued to tax defaulters.
Sources revealed that data is being collected based on ownership of valuable properties, vehicles, bank balances, and credit card usage. Information is also being gathered on international travel, expensive healthcare services, and high-cost educational facilities.
This year, over two million individuals declared zero taxable income in their returns.
Additionally, sources stated that not only tax evaders but also their facilitators will face action. The Prime Minister has already directed the authorities to expedite measures against tax defaulters.
