Peshawar: Chairman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zakat and Ushr Council Imtiaz Khan, expressing his anger over the slowness in the process of forming local Zakat committees at the district level, has taken strict notice of this matter and has said that the local committees should be fully activated within 10 days in all the districts of the province and the distribution of Zakat funds should be started among the deserving persons, otherwise after 10 days the provincial council will take action against the inactive committees and take legal action. While presiding over a meeting of the Provincial Zakat and Ushr Council held in Peshawar on Tuesday, Chairman Imtiaz Khan said that their rights should be conveyed to the deserving persons immediately and transparency should also be ensured in the distribution of funds.
The meeting was attended by members of the Provincial Zakat Council, District Zakat Chairman Peshawar, former Member of National Assembly Sajid Nawaz Khan and other officers of the department. The meeting also discussed the reconstitution of Zakat Committees at the district level, their performance and immediate distribution of funds to the deserving persons. Addressing the meeting, the Chairman of the Zakat and Ushr Council said that the Provincial Council has released Rs. 128.11 million for the provision of Zakat Committees, however, the District Zakat Committees should not delay in transferring these funds to the provincial level hospitals and this process should be expedited so that the deserving persons can benefit from it. He further said that appropriate steps should be taken for the District Zakat Committees whose reconstitution process is still pending.
