PESHAWAR: A social media ban has been imposed on police officers and personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Central Police Office has issued a directive to Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) that police officers and staff are prohibited from using social networking applications. The directive banned all ranks of officers and personnel from using platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube. The letter emphasized strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and prohibited the uploading of uniform photos, weapons, police badges or other evidence to personal social media accounts. He also noted that many police personnel were found violating SOPs and RPOs and DPOs were instructed to take departmental action against such violations. The central police agency stressed that the use of social media undermined the reputation of the department and posed a risk to the safety of other officers.
