PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Wednesday intensified its crackdown on adulteration mafia across the province.
Under the supervision of Food Authority DG Wasif Saeed, the district administration and food safety team conducted surprise raids on bakers and juice making units in the university city of Peshawar, a Food Authority spokesperson said.
The Seven-Eleven fast food unit was sealed due to poor cleanliness, about 500 kg of substandard ketchup and 50 kg of spoiled meat were also recovered, he informed.
Another operation in Pakha Ghulam Peshawar was a surprise raid on a fake dairy manufacturing unit at Keduran House, the spokeswoman informed.
About 1,000 kg of non-standard and export-damaged various harmful dairy products were also recovered from the site, the spokesman said.
The Mardan Food Safety Team also inspected milk vendors in Gujargarhi, Jhande and Takhtbhai Bazaars, the spokesperson said. 500 liters of adulterated and harmful milk was wasted when milk samples were checked by a mobile food testing laboratory, the spokesman said.
He said the owners have been fined heavily for participating in substandard food and other measures have been initiated.
DG Food Wasif Saeed has ordered zero tolerance on food adulteration. There is no tolerance for counterfeit businesses at the expense of public health, he said.
He also asked the citizens to provide timely information and inform the Food Authority officials about such elements in time so that action can be taken against all such mafias.
