In a decisive move, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority carried out raids in Swat and Nowshera, recovering a bundle of counterfeit beverages production and expire ice cream coloring agents.
The spokesperson of the Food Authority, while issuing details to the media, stated that upon receiving a clandestine tip-off, the Swat food safety team raided a warehouse in the Matta Bazaar of Swat, uncovering over 7,000 liters of substandard and counterfeit beverages. The beverages were promptly confiscated, leading to the sealing of the godown and initiating further actions in accordance with the Food Safety Act.
In line with this, according to further details, the Food Safety team in Nowshera, under the supervision of monitoring and evaluation officer, conducted inspections in the Nowshera and Jehangira markets. Several wholesale dealers, bakeries, distributors, and factories were scrutinized, resulting in the sealing of a bakery production unit in Jehangira due to hygiene violations. Additionally, inspection team also seized approximately 7 kilograms of expired coloring agents and misleading labels from two ice cream factories, imposing heavy fines on the owners.
Director General of the Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, commended the successful operations of the Food Safety teams, emphasizing that eliminating substandard food-related businesses and mafia is not only the mission of the Food Authority but also a religious obligation on us being a Muslims.
KP Food minister, Zahir Shah Toru also applauded the teams and instructed them to expedite stern actions against the mafia involved in adulteration activities, stressing that no leniency shall be shown towards them.
