Peshawar: Additional Chief Secretary Home Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday took notice of the alleged sexual assault of a female inmate by the superintendent sub-Jail Battagram and constituted a two-member committee to probe the matter.
“The Additional Chief Secretary has constituted a two-member committee to probe allegations levelled by an inmate confined at sub-jail Battagram against the superintendent,” a notification issued by the Special Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs department revealed.
A female inmate had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Superintendent Shehar Yar during her confinement at sub-jail Battagram earlier this week.
The committee, constituted by the home department including Deputy Inspector General of Prison Hazara Umair Khan and Superintendent District Jail Mansehra Nagina Mehsud has started a probe and visited the sub-jail Battagram.
The suspect Shehar Yar who had previously served as superintendent sub-jail Battagram was now made Officer on special duty (OSD) by the Inspector General of Prison Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until the probe is over.
According to the notification, the committee is tasked to complete the probe within two days and file its findings to the Additional Chief Secretary of Home Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It has been happening for the first time that a female officer, Nagina Mehsud has been posted as superintendent district jail in Mansehra and made a member of such a sensitive committee probing the sexual assault of a female inmate during her captivity.
