Abdul Wasi is a prominent leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who served as the provincial General Secretary for the last nine years, strengthening the organization with sincere dedication. Under his leadership, Jamaat-e-Islami achieved several successes in the province’s political and social spheres. Currently, he is serving as the supervising amir (leader) of Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central.
(Education and Early Life)
Abdul Wasi hails from Momin Khel, Shergarh, in Mardan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from a modest yet religious family. His father, Sheikh-ul-Quran Maulana Abdul Bar, served as the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Mardan district and the head of Darul Uloom Miftah-ul-Uloom in Shergarh. Abdul Wasi completed his early education at Government Primary School Momin Khel. He had a strong inclination toward religious and scholarly pursuits from a young age, shaping his political and intellectual inclinations. Jamaat-e-Islami’s message and principles became a life purpose for him, inspiring him to deeply understand and adopt the ideology of the party. He served as the Nazim (head) of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Mardan Division, later becoming the Provincial Nazim for three years, and finally served as Secretary-General (Mutamad-e-Aam) for Pakistan. He holds an MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Peshawar and an MA in Political Science from Punjab University. After completing his education, he initially joined the government as a Grade 17 officer. However, the then Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, sent a message to Abdul Wasi’s father, stating that Abdul Wasi was an asset to the Islamic movement and should not be lost to a government job. Subsequently, Abdul Wasi resigned from government service.
Political Career
Abdul Wasi’s association with Jamaat-e-Islami spans several decades. He has worked in various divisions within the organization, actively promoting its ideology among the public. His political journey began as a dedicated worker, eventually leading him to become one of the central leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
