(Education and Early Life)
Abdul Wasi hails from Momin Khel, Shergarh, in Mardan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from a modest yet religious family. His father, Sheikh-ul-Quran Maulana Abdul Bar, served as the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Mardan district and the head of Darul Uloom Miftah-ul-Uloom in Shergarh. Abdul Wasi completed his early education at Government Primary School Momin Khel. He had a strong inclination toward religious and scholarly pursuits from a young age, shaping his political and intellectual inclinations. Jamaat-e-Islami’s message and principles became a life purpose for him, inspiring him to deeply understand and adopt the ideology of the party. He served as the Nazim (head) of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Mardan Division, later becoming the Provincial Nazim for three years, and finally served as Secretary-General (Mutamad-e-Aam) for Pakistan. He holds an MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Peshawar and an MA in Political Science from Punjab University. After completing his education, he initially joined the government as a Grade 17 officer. However, the then Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, sent a message to Abdul Wasi’s father, stating that Abdul Wasi was an asset to the Islamic movement and should not be lost to a government job. Subsequently, Abdul Wasi resigned from government service.
