Nairobi: Kenya’s defense chief and nine other top officials were killed in a military helicopter crash in a remote part of the country on Thursday.
The president, who called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council after news of the crash, said nine other “combatant military personnel” were killed and two survived.
A trained fighter pilot, Ogolla, 61, served only one year in the post, but has 40 years of military service.
Ruto said the Kenya Air Force had sent an investigation team to investigate the cause of the crash, which occurred in Elgeyo Marakwet district, 400 km northwest of the capital Nairobi.
Ogolla’s helicopter touched down shortly after Chesegon village where he visited a school after stopping in other areas to see Kenyan troops and other places.
