Muzaffarabad: Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir has announced that a massive rally will be held on the death anniversary of Shaheed Ashraf Sehrai to pay homage to the great martyr.
In a media statement on Wednesday, he said that the Kashmiri nation would never forget the sacrifices of the Sahara family for the freedom movement of Kashmir.
He said that the beloved leader of Kashmiri people spent 70 years of his life actively for Islam, rights of Kashmiri people and freedom of the state.
Ghazali said that the martyr fought eternally and tirelessly for the freedom of the nation.
He opined that Sehrai not only sacrificed his own life but that his son (Junaid Ahmar Sehrai) also suffered martyrdom in the resistance movement.
“Sehrai suffered hardships in prison from time to time, she was a victim of oppression and punishment at the hands of Indian rulers several times,” lamented Uzair.
“Ashraf Khan Sehrai fought a historic struggle for the freedom of the state and spent his last days in Indian jails,” he added.
He said that Sehrai was a brave leader who did not bow down to the Indian rulers but preferred to be imprisoned.
He said a rally would be held in Muzaffarabad on May 5 to pay tribute to Ashraf Sehrai and a large number of people from various segments of the society were expected to attend.
Ashraf Sehrai was the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, was arrested under PSA in July 2020 and remained incarcerated in Udhampur jail. Later on May 4, 2021, his health deteriorated and he complained of shortness of breath.
He was subsequently admitted to the Government Medical College, Jammu, and died in the hospital the next day.
Sehrai’s family claimed that he was murdered by Indian authorities, while the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association also claimed that his death was a custodial murder.
