KHUZDAR: Journalist and president of khuzdar Press Club Muhammad Siddiq Mengal was killed on Friday after a remote-controlled bomb targeted his car in Khuzdar.
At least eight people were injured in the deadly explosion.
A station house official said two people were injured in the blast, raising the death toll to three.
According to the police, the person killed in the remote controlled blast was seriously injured and taken to hospital, while eight others who were injured in the blast are being treated in different hospitals.
According to the police, the remote-controlled blast was carried out on Jalan Sultan Ibrahim Khan on the National Highway.
An employee at the station house said that the journalist, who was the target of the explosion, was hit by his car while he was on his way to the university from his home.
Police said the journalist, who was associated with a local newspaper, escaped an assassination attempt a few months ago.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau strongly condemned the Khuzdar blast and ordered a report to be submitted to the relevant authorities.
The attack on journalists comes as the world honors the work of journalists today on Press Freedom Day.
Earlier this morning, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said journalism in Pakistan was “under threat” as it marked World Press Freedom Day on Friday.
The IFJ also released its 22nd annual South Asia Press Freedom Report on the same day, with journalists reportedly “hitting the sack” in the battle between former prime minister Imran Khan and the organisation.
According to the report, dozens of people have been arrested and 60 journalists have been given legal notices due to their detention.
He said eight journalists were charged with sedition, terrorism and incitement to violence.
