LAHORE- A car and two motorcycles fell into a wide chasm that had formed on the main boulevard of Johar city near Shaukat Khanum Hospital on Monday. In time, people pulled the trapped drivers and riders out of the pit using a ladder. The traffic was diverted to alternative routes by the police on the instructions of Chief Traffic Officer Ammar Athar. Traffic was interrupted in the area due to the diversion. The car and motorbikes were pulled out of the sinkhole using a crane. The driver of the passenger car and the cyclists remained safe in the accident. According to Lahore Development Authority (LDA) officials, the sinkhole was formed due to the leakage of a sewer pipe under the road. A sinkhole is a cavity formed on the surface of the earth after the material beneath has been removed. In August, there were reports of sinkholes forming on roads in Lahore during the monsoon season.
