Islamabad: The Center for Indian Studies (ISSI) of the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISSI) has organized an internal session on the 18th People’s Consultative Conference in India. This event was attended by diplomats, scholars, practitioners and researchers from various Islamabad-based think tanks.
Participants discussed the length and breadth of the 7-phase electrical process; relevant developments, including the publication of the main political party’s election manifesto; the tone and meaning of the election campaign by various parties; role of Election Commission of India; political characteristics and tendencies of various regions of India from North to South; and the approach of Indian media and civil society.
This divisive and adversarial rhetoric is noted to pervade the public environment, while some government ministers openly invoked Pakistan for electoral division during the election campaign. Analysts believe that this does not bode well for India’s internal social cohesion or its external relations with its surroundings.
Experts also point to the need for extreme vigilance in Pakistan, because desperation over government distribution in India can lead to any mistakes (false flags). From the perspective of India-Pakistan relations, it is considered appropriate to wait for the final results and election results and then make a realistic assessment, including the steps India will take to create an environment conducive to result-oriented talks. used in all disputes.
The 7 rounds of voting in the Indian elections will end on June 1 and the results will be declared on June 4, 2024.
