A horrific fire engulfed more than 300 shops in Islamabad’s I-9 sector, while nine fire engines and 60 firemen were involved in dousing the fire.
Firefighters from Rawalpindi were also called. Rescuers said that initially the fire broke out in the bazaar area of the market, Deputy Commissioner H-9 Islamabad reached the spot to supervise the coordination of the rescue operation.
Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa said the fire was completely extinguished. There were 2,743 stores, of which 500 stores were damaged. 31 fire trucks are working on the scene. Water archers also participate in the rescue operations,” said the High Commissioner.
He added that 250 rescuers are currently carrying out rescue operations.
