Google is reportedly working on bringing back key iPhone features to its upcoming Android software (OS) conversion for the Pixel.
According to Android Police, the big tech company is planning to bring back lock screen widgets for Android 15 OS to make its Pixel smartphones more useful.
In a report for Android Authority, Android expert Mishal Rahman suggested that the company connect its RemoteViews API to At Glance’s Smartspace API to allow third-party widgets to display.
However, according to Android Police, the company has no place to display full-sized widgets and currently only has issues showing relevant information from third-party widgets.
Therefore, Google must change the dynamic dimensions to fit the content in the limited space.
Additionally, the One-Glance lock screen feature is limited to Pixel devices, and if the tech giant uses it to bring third-party widget support to the Android phone’s lock screen.
Apparently, Google is also considering moving the At Glance widget to the bottom of the lock screen.
Google is reportedly in the early stages of developing support for widgets like Live Activity in Android 15, which the OS isn’t ready to launch later this year.
This could mean that users will have to wait until 2025 for Android 16 for a superior lock screen experience.
