Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian died in a helicopter crash.
The incident was confirmed on Monday by Vice President Mohsen Mansouri in a statement on social media and state television.
“Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Governor of East Azerbaijan province Malek Rahmati and Raisi guard chief Mehdi Mousavi were also on the plane that crashed,” the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said earlier.
It was also reported that the representative of the leader in East Azerbaijan Province, Muhammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, accompanied the 63-year-old President Raisi and other officials.
“President Raisi, the foreign minister and all the passengers in the helicopter died in the crash,” a senior Iranian official told Reuters earlier, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the development.
Iran’s Mehr news agency confirmed that all Dikuchar passengers were “martyred”.
