Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Saeed Esmaeili has won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Iran’s Esmaeili defeated Ukraine’s Parviz Nasibov 6:5 in the final of the Greco-Roman category up to 67 kg and took first place in the sports event.
Before the finals, Esmaeili defeated opponents from Algeria, Cuba and Armenia to secure a place in the championship match.
Two other Iranian wrestlers, Mohammad-Hadi Saravi and Amin Mirzazadeh, previously achieved gold and bronze medals in the 97 kg and 130 kg categories, respectively.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Esmaili on winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, stressing that “Saeed Esmaili’s rare gold is the result of collective caution and resistance”. In a congratulatory post in Persian on his X account on Thursday, President Pezeshkian said the result of prudence and resilience together brought Esmaeili and the Iranian people a gold medal.
