The head of Instagram recently announced in a video message that a feature removed in 2019 will be reintroduced to the app. The goal of bringing back this feature, which was discontinued half a decade ago, is to keep users informed about their friends’ likes and comments.
Under this feature, when a user likes a video or post or comments on it, their friends will receive a notification about which post or video their friend engaged with.
The feature will be reintroduced with improvements. Instagram now aims to notify users only about likes and comments on videos, rather than sending notifications for every like and comment as was the case earlier.
The feature, which was previously popular on Instagram and Facebook, was restricted or discontinued for a while but is now set to return. Some users feel this feature invades their privacy, believing that their preferences and dislikes should not be known to their friends or followers. Access to the feature will be rolled out gradually, and some users in certain countries have already received it.
