Imran Khan will make a grand comeback in Bollywood after a gap of almost nine years. This comeback is a special combination as Khan will be collaborating with his maternal uncle, Aamir Khan, who was instrumental in launching his career. It has been reported that the actor has signed an action comedy titled Lucky Patel starring Vir Das.
According to Peeping Moon, the film will be produced by Aamir Khan Productions and this shows that it is a full opportunity for the actor. Amir introduced Imran to the silver screen in 1988 as a child artist in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Two decades later, in 2008, Aamir Khan Productions launched Imran as the lead in the rom-com Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.
Details about Lucky Patel are being kept under wraps, but sources describe it as a comical riot set in a strange but familiar world. The tone of the film is said to be reminiscent of Imran’s earlier successful comedies, often mixing comedy with relatable characters and heart-wrenching stories. Filming has started in Goa.
Adding an interesting layer to the project is the directorial debut of Vir Das. Khan and Das previously starred together in the 2011 hit comedy Delhi Belly. While Das has experience directing web series (which is yet to be released), this will be Patel’s first feature film directorial venture.
Actors boast more star power. Mona Singh, known for working with Aamir Khan and Laal Singh Chadha in 3 Idiots, will play the lead role. The identity of the female lead remains hidden. There are rumors that Aamir Khan will be in his party, but that has not been confirmed yet.
Lucky Patel replaced the web series originally planned by Abbas Tyrewala. This espionage thriller for Disney + Hotstar will see Khan portray an intelligence officer who studies the intricacies of South Asian counter-intelligence operations. However, the project was delayed due to the merger between Reliance Industries and Walt Disney Company.
