Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, apparently referring to the statement of President-elect Trump’s adviser and other US lawmakers, wondered “why those who conspired against Pakistan are raising their voices against PTI founder Imran Khan”.
“We must unite to deal with the conspiracy being hatched against us [Pakistan]. We have to think of Pakistan and its defense while keeping politics aside,” the PPP chief said.
“They [international powers] cast an evil eye on the nuclear technology gifted by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.”
Expressing outrage over “foreign interference” in Pakistan’s internal affairs, the PPP chairman said, “Statements are being issued from the US about our internal politics; these statements are just excuses.”
He said that US lawmakers have nothing to do with democracy in Pakistan and added, “The founder of PTI is just an excuse, their real target is Pakistan’s nuclear and missile program.”
“PTI founder should clarify his stand on these statements.
The PPP leader wondered why those who had issued statements against Pakistan’s nuclear programmer were now raising their voice for Khan’s release.
He said PTI and its founder should condemn these statements.
“There is an impression that a certain lobby wants to bring in a government [in the country] that is ready to make a deal on anything [including the nuclear program].
Emphasizing the need for a consensus decision, the PPP chairman said that this PML-N-led government has no mandate to take unilateral decisions.
The PPP leader said this while addressing a public gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the occasion of the 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Speaking at the event, Bilawal paid rich tributes to his mother and the slain former prime minister, saying her 30-year political struggle has become a part of history.
He said that Benazir never compromised on ideology, adding that she was a representative of the vulnerable sections of the society.
The PPP and its supporters across the country are observing the 17th death anniversary of their slain leader with great devotion and respect.
A major gathering is held at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, the hometown and resting place of the Bhutto family. President Asif Ali Zardari and central and provincial leaders of the party will address the rally.
Benazir’s youngest child, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who is now the First Lady of Pakistan and Central President of PPP’s Ladies Wing and Asif’s sister and Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Faryal Talpur, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah arrived at Naudero Presidential House in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on before the anniversary.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and other leaders are also present there.
At the venue of the rally, the 60 feet wide main stage was decorated with party flags, portraits of Benazir and other party leaders. Famous poets of the country will pay tribute to their late leader through poetry on this occasion.
