DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded India its second semi-final spot for the 2024 T20 World Cup to be played in the United States and West Indies from June 1, Cricinfo reported.
India are in Group A with arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Canada and Ireland and will play the second semi-final in Providence, Guyana if the Rohit Sharma-led side reaches the knockout stage.
The reason for giving India a second semi-final is the timing of the match. The first semi-final to be played in Tarouba, Trinidad will start at 8:30 am local time, while in India it will be at 6:00 am on June 27, which is not suitable for Indian viewers.
On the other hand, the second semi-final will start at 8:30 PM in India at 10:30 PM local time. The second semi-final time is more convenient for Indian viewers.
The World Cup final will be a one-day match on June 29, starting at 10:00 AM local time and 7:30 AM in India.
It has also been confirmed that no date has been changed for the second semifinal, but if it is postponed for any reason, the match will be given an additional 250 minutes of extra time. However, there will be reserve days in the first semi-final and final.
Remember, the knockout tie for the World Cup can only be won if both teams play at least ten overs each, without reserve days, the first semi-final and the final.
As in other T20 matches in the past, the second batting team must bat for five overs to decide the result in case of deadlock and the same rule will be followed in this World Cup. Ten-point rule for three-point games.
From June 1, the World Cup will feature 55 matches at nine different venues in the West Indies and the United States (USA).
Meanwhile, three places are in the US – Eisenhower Park, New York; Lauderhill, Florida; and Grand Prairie, Texas.
The semi-finals of the event will be played in Guyana and Trinidad on June 26 and 27 respectively, with the World Cup culminating in Barbados on June 29.
