ISLAMABAD: Urdu will be offered as a Category C subject on the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) starting in 2026, according to an agreement between the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) of Pakistan and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA).
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by Pakistan’s Consulate General in Hong Kong, the agreement calls for the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education to oversee the Urdu examinations in Hong Kong. This includes framing question papers, helping with registration, grading, marking, and sending results to HKEAA.
The HKEAA will then accept the findings for the evaluation of the HKDSE category C Urdu topic.
The agreement is a major step forward that resulted in Urdu being included to the HKDSE curriculum as a Category C subject.
With the agreement in place, Urdu language competency will be officially acknowledged, adding to the thorough assessment of applicants’ language abilities in the HKDSE. Additionally, this will benefit kids who have studied Urdu in the past and improve their prospects for tertiary education and career paths.
Serving as a bridge to facilitate smooth collaboration and simplify talks between the FBISE and HKEAA, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Hong Kong was instrumental in fostering communication and cooperation between the two organizations.
Since the agreement’s implementation is scheduled to start in 2026, HKEAA and FBISE may now focus on carrying out the required processes in an efficient manner to guarantee Urdu’s smooth incorporation as a Category C subject inside the HKDSE framework.
