ISLAMABAD: The month of Ramadan has been sighted in Pakistan and the first Roza will be observed across the country tomorrow (Tuesday), the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Monday evening.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad made the official announcement after a meeting of clerics from all schools of thought to ascertain the start of the ninth Islamic month.
The month of Ramadan was sighted in Lahore and Peshawar before the official announcement.
Ramadan has already started in several parts of the world, including the Middle East, Europe and other regions, and according to astronomical parameters, there is a good chance that the moon will be sighted in Pakistan today as well.
The Moon Observing Body meeting was held in Peshawar. The authority has asked all Pakistanis to help in this regard with the wish that the holy month will start on the same day across the country.
Meanwhile, meetings of other Zonal and District Ruet-e-Hilal Committees were held simultaneously at their respective places on Shaban 29 after Asr prayers while observing the month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri.
The month of Ramadan was due to be born at 2pm on Sunday and could be seen today, when it would be more than 28 hours old, according to the Met Office.
The holy month, which is observed with religious zeal and fervor, will see millions of Pakistanis along with billions of Muslims around the world observing the dawn-to-sunset fast, with the fasting time being between 12 and 17 hours – depending on the geographical location across the country. globe.
Like many countries, Ramadan in Pakistan is marked by increased charity and public food drives, with people setting up roadside stalls for people returning to their homes in the evening.
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on Monday that the month of Ramazan has been sighted and tomorrow (March 12) will be the first day of the holy month.
The meeting of the body was presided over by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at the office of the Auqaf Administrator in Peshawar. Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Azad said testimonies of moon sightings were received from most parts of the country, including Peshawar, Lahore, Swat, Sargodha and other places.
“So it was decided by consensus that Ramazan will start on March 12.
He congratulated the people and the Muslim community on the arrival of the holy month. He earlier said that the sun will set around 6:20 pm today, after which committee members across the country will try to see the month of Ramazan.
He emphasized that similar meetings of zonal committees across the country would be held at their respective headquarters in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Islamabad to decide on the observance of the holy month of Ramazan, 1445 AH.
Maulana Azad appealed to all citizens to be vigilant while observing the moon and expressed hope for a unified day of fasting for the country.
