SWAT: Three-local mountaineers from Swat were summiting Thalo Zom peak for the first time in the history of Pakistan, one of the highest peaks of Hindu Kush Mountain range in the Border of Swat and Chitral districts without any training and proper equipment. The three Mountaineers, Syed Zeeshan Umar from Saidu Sharif , Seath Numan Khalil from Manglawar and Syed Ali Shah from Khwazakhela scaled the 6,050 meters ( 19849 feet) high peak of Thalo Zom during 10-days of difficult journey.
This peak was summit by an international team comprised of mountaineers from Austria in 1971 and an Italian team was in 2019.
The mountaineers said that it was their dream to summit the peak and they did it without any proper training and professional equipment, added that they were proud to become the first Swatian and Pakistanis to have summit the peak and they completed their expedition in ten days. The mountaineers said that Thalo Zom was not an easy peak as its route was full of icy and a lot of big glaciers, dozens of wide crevasses, frequent vertical reliefs and enormous bulk of ice and rock, which was why it was one of the most dangerous peak among the 6,050 meters high peaks of Hindukush range.
“We are not professionally trained in rock and ice climbing, which was our weakest point but we had a strong will and we found good weather till the summit which enabled us to successfully summit the peak,” Syed Zeeshan Umar described.
Mountaineer Syed Zeeshan Umar said that Thalo Zom Peak is a peak at the confluence of Swat and Chitral and we chose the Thal Kumrat route to reach this peak.
“We started our journey towards this peak by way of Thal Kumrat. After that, we reached the Thal Pass located at a height of 13800 feet , later we reached Surlas Pur in Chitral and after a 6 days journey we reached the base camp of Thalo Zom.The height of this base camp is 18200 feet above sea level and finally from the base camp we started the journey again and after a day’s we summit this peak,” he said.
“We faced blizzards, strong winds, rain and severe weather during this journey, but we did not lose heart and continued our journey even in severe weather up to -18 degrees Celsius,” said Seath Nauman.
The mountaineers said that during this journey, they drank water by melting the snow through stoves and used only soup for food so that they did not face any problem with food.
The three mountaineers vowed to climb the entire highest peak in Pakistan. “If the government supports us and provides us with professional equipment to summit the highest peaks and wave the Pakistani flag,” they said.
