London: A recent study has revealed that women who consume excessive amounts of soft drinks experience more intense pain during menstruation.
The study, published in *Scientific Reports*, investigated the potential role of soft drinks in the development of **Primary Dysmenorrhea (PD)** in women. Researchers found that women who frequently drink cold beverages are more likely to suffer from menstrual pain without any underlying illness.
Current estimates show that **45-95%** of undergraduate women globally suffer from PD.
PD-related pain in the lower abdomen can negatively impact a woman’s quality of life, reduce working hours, and increase healthcare costs.
