LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive strategy to curb drug trafficking and illegal use.
Addressing the World Drug Day, the CM said that drug addiction destroys people and families and said, “We must unite to fight this menace. Today, we reiterate our commitment to a drug-free Punjab for a better future for our youth.”
The CM appealed to all citizens to spread awareness and help those struggling against drug addiction and said that education and awareness are important to prevent drug abuse. He said law enforcement agencies are tasked with taking illegal action against drug trafficking networks. He said, the war against drugs requires a collective effort for the active participation of every citizen.
“You are not alone in this fight,” said the Prime Minister, standing with drug addicts and their families. He emphasized the need to strengthen community relations and support systems to prevent drug addiction among our youth.
“Let’s pledge to create a drug-free environment for our children,” he said. “The health and safety of the public is our number one priority, and we are committed to providing resources and support to the war on drugs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) headquarters on Wednesday.
He directed the officials concerned to remove encroachments and obstructions in Rudkohi river and said timely evacuation of people due to floods should be planned. He said to provide shelter and food for the affected villagers.
The CM said that throughout human life, things also need to be discarded at some point in time. He asked the confusion that flood early warning system is used all over the world, why is it not yet known to Pakistan?
CM Maryam Nawaz said that if it rains, water should be provided immediately in every city. He also said that early action should be taken where there is a risk of flooding. He said timely and accurate information about floods should be provided. The CM said that attacks should be avoided in every flood and vigilance should be continued at all times.
The CM also visited the PDMA central control room and inspected the Weather Portal, Sili Forecasting Unit and Sili Simulation Model.
Earlier, the Secretary of Irrigation, Chief of Meteorology and Director General of PDMA gave a detailed briefing on flood preparedness in the province. They reported that daily reports were sought from many districts due to fear of flooding. Given the possibility of flooding, an order was issued to notify the public of evacuation plans in affected areas. The briefing also said that normal and normal rainfall is expected in Pakistan in 3 months. During the meeting, all piers, connecting channels, main channels and drainage systems etc. Status report submitted.
