SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A grand prize distribution ceremony was held on Friday at the Gomal Zam Dam Short Video Documentary Competition, organized by the Mehsud Press Club South Waziristan and Gomal Scouts Force.
The event was attended by prominent guests, including Station Commander Brigadier Amir Hayat, Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Division Jabbar Shah, Commandant Gomal Scouts Moeen Uddin Ahmad, and Dean Gomal Medical College Dr. Naseem Sabba Mehsud, who distributed prizes to the winners.
The competition saw three winners, with Afaq Burki securing the first position, Naeem Abbas winning the second, and Noman Sheikh bagging the third. Additionally, special awards were given to Aleena Akhtar in the women’s category and Hamdan Mehsud in the children’s category.
Addressing the event, Chief Guest Station Commander and Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan highlighted the importance of such competitions in promoting creative work among the youth and providing opportunities for their talents to contribute to the country’s development.
Dera Ismail Khan Press Club President Lala Yasin emphasized that these competitions foster research, creativity, and quality improvement among the youth, essential for today’s journalism field.
Mehsud Press Club President Farooq Mehsud thanked the participants and acknowledged the support of the Gomal Scouts Force and FC Headquarter South KP in making the competition possible.
The ceremony was well-attended by civil and military authorities, regional elders, youth, and children, adding to its splendor. The event demonstrated the collective effort to promote journalism and creativity in the region.
The Gomal Zam Dam, located on the Gomal River in the northwestern part in Wana, Lower South Waziristan of Khyber Pakhtunkhowa, serves several purposes, including irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric power generation.
The gravity dam, completed in 2011, is considered a showpiece infrastructure project in the country.
