ISLAMABAD: Syngenta Pakistan CEO Zeeshan Haseeb Baig on Monday highlighted a holistic and multi-dimensional approach to address food insecurity, increase agricultural productivity and promote sustainable agriculture, where Syngenta Pakistan has played a leading role in innovative seeds and crop improvement products.
In an interview with news channel PTV, he explained that smart agriculture has also become a reality. Digital devices can analyze weather conditions, monitor plant growth, improve irrigation efficiency and reduce groundwater consumption. Making agriculture climate smart through an integrated approach is also an ideal solution to ensure food security for an ever-growing global population at a time when there are twin challenges of land degradation and carbon emissions, he said.
Syngenta’s main goal is to achieve sustainable higher productivity, ensure livelihoods and food security, adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he added. “Integrated agriculture has huge potential to make farmers climate smarter by growing different crops on the same land and using agricultural resources sustainably,” he said.

He said both the public and private sectors must come forward to improve livelihoods through integrated farming to promote climate resilient agriculture, adding that awareness among traditional farmers is also the need of the hour to achieve microfinance access among producers.
Syngenta brings new and improved solutions to farmers around the world, from yield-enhancing innovations that ensure food security and help mitigate climate, to sustainable agronomic advice that helps unleash the power of nature, he emphasized. He expressed hope that they would be able to promote innovation and application of smart agricultural technologies through international exchanges and cooperation with Pakistan.
