Islamabad: Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday asked for the implementation of the written agreement signed between the government and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Addressing the media here, Gilani said that PPP was not part of the federal cabinet before and will not be in future. He explained that there are reservations about the ongoing negotiations in the PPP. “When the final decision is made, it will be communicated to everyone.”
He said, in the civilized world, problems are solved only through dialogue, and the solution to all political problems is through dialogue.
Speaking as a special guest at a seminar held here, the Senate Chairman said that collective efforts should be made to improve healthcare in Pakistan. He said access to healthcare is not only a human right but also the foundation of national development.
The 18th amendment to the constitution was important in giving provinces jurisdiction over health matters. He said, by changing the constitution, the province can take steps to find local solutions in accordance with the wishes of the people. Decentralization has helped create a comprehensive participatory framework for health and it is time for a collective effort to improve health in Pakistan, he said.
The President of the Senate said that people should not only get the care they deserve, but also create a society that values health as the foundation of development.
Gilani suggested that during his tenure as prime minister, he has taken concrete steps to strengthen the health sector, focusing on improving the primary health care sector and bridging the gap between urban and rural areas.
