LAHORE: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Dr Asif Mahmood Jah has directed all advisers across the country to address complaints of aggrieved taxpayers within 60 days of their submission.
Addressing an information meeting to various sectors of the business community here on Sunday, he said the direction was aimed at ensuring speedy and effective redressal of grievances and providing timely relief to taxpayers. The directive underlines the government’s commitment to ensure justice at the doorstep of aggrieved taxpayers and to strengthen trust and transparency in the tax administration system.
By setting a strict 60-day deadline, he said, it will speed up the process and prevent unnecessary delays that could burden taxpayers and undermine their confidence. The measure is part of a wider effort to streamline tax procedures, making the system more responsive and accessible. The emphasis on prompt redress reflects recognition of the issues facing taxpayers and a commitment to addressing their concerns with urgency and fairness.
Dr. Speaking on the occasion, Waqar Ch Arain Advisor to FTO said that FTO has always attached great importance to the business community which is the backbone of the national economy and contributes significantly to development and prosperity. He added that the FTO secretariat is a phone call away and all aggrieved taxpayers can approach the nearest regional office and file a genuine complaint which is processed immediately without wasting time. He said that on the other hand, the FTO has already categorically ruled on several occasions that all due taxes must be paid on time to run the affairs of the state smoothly.
Later, FTO Dr Asif Mahmood Jah answered a barrage of questions from the participants. Prominent among them were Mian Faiz Bukhsh, CEO of IT Professionals, Dr. Muhammad Nauman Faizi, Mohsin Ali Mughal Architect, Ahmad Waqar Ch, Azmat Javed Rehmat, Muslim Khan Buneri and Hussain Aamir Jafri.
