Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has approved the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to pay $2.58 million as part of the compensation to the families of Chinese nationals killed in the Dasu attack in March.
The executive also had to pay a fine of $2.5 million for the Pakistani driver killed in the terrorist attack.
The cabinet’s approval came after the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) recommended the compensation amount to the ECC based on GDP per capita and purchasing power parity.
The Ministry of Water Resources has forwarded the summary to the ECC for the approval of the compensation grant, which was approved in its meeting on Thursday.
The $717 million compensation package for Chinese nationals will see each family receive $516,000, or $143.4 million.
Additional grants are organized by the Ministry of Finance itself because there is no such provision in the budget of the Ministry of Water Resources.
This amount will be transferred to the account of the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing for payment to the families of the deceased Chinese citizens through appropriate channels.
