PESHAWAR: Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana, Chairman of the Federal Board of collection (FBR), lauded Pakistan Customs Khyber Pakthunkhwa for boosting tax collection in addition to combating illicit trade and contraband items here on Friday.
The topic of this year’s International Customs Day was “customs engaging traditional and new partners with purpose,” according to Chairman FBR, who was speaking as the chief guest at a celebration held by Pakistan Customs Peshawar in honor of the holiday.
The International Day of Customs, according to Malik Amjad Tiwana, is a monument to the crucial role customs play in promoting international trade, guaranteeing financial security, and maintaining lawful commercial transactions around the world.
The topic for this year emphasized the value of partnerships within the customs community, highlighting joint efforts to advance international trade and guarantee improved cooperation in the global customs arena.
According to Malik Amjad, the development of technology has brought forth new difficulties, including the risk of money laundering. Pakistani customs officials bear a great deal of responsibility in utilizing technology to combat all forms of smuggling and illicit trade, in addition to enhancing service delivery and boosting tax revenue for the government.
He expressed his gratitude to Pakistan Customs Peshawar for hosting a fantastic event in honor of International Customs Day. Chairman FBR Malik Amjad Tiwana, who also visited Yagdgar Shuhada at Customs House Peshawar and deposited a floral wreath, was saluted by the well-groomed contingent.
According to Saeed Akram, Chief Collector of Customs for Khyber Pakthunkhwa, the KP Customs Department has collected Rs21569 million in customs tax in the first half of the current fiscal year, compared to Rs13,423 million in the same period last fiscal year. “Revenue collection has increased by 60% year over year.”
Regarding the fight against smuggling, he stated that in the first half of the current fiscal year, KP Customs made seizures of Rs5, 358.
According to him, Pakistan Customs has started a major modernization initiative, giving operational process digitization top priority and making investments in personnel development.
He claimed that thirty Pakistan Customs Department KP jawans and officers lost their lives while performing their duties. Earlier, Khwaja Khurram, Collector of Customs, Peshawar, evaluated the event and accomplishments of today in his welcoming speech.
Afterwards, in addition to other pertinent department authorities, Chairman FBR Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana gave praise certificates to the officers and officials of the DI Khan, the directorate of intelligence and investigation of the customs department, and the collectorate of customs enforcement Peshawar. The Chairman FBR was also given a memento.
