Karachi: Even as many cities are currently experiencing heatwave-like conditions, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday predicted monsoon rains in many parts of the country during June-August.
While this forecast may bring relief amid the hot weather, it is also a cause for concern as too much rain could cause flooding across the country.
According to PMD’s monsoon rainfall outlook, normal to normal rainfall is possible in many places this year. According to the press service, heavy rainfall is likely in central and northern Punjab.
At the same time, heavy rains are likely to occur in southern Sindh and Balochistan is also under threat of exceptionally rainy weather.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive average rainfall this year, according to the Meteorological Department.
The department has predicted that the first phase of monsoon will see more rainfall than the second phase.
“Heavy rainfall is likely during the first phase as compared to the second phase of the monsoon,” he said.
The PMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Punjab and upper parts of the state on May 27, which may disrupt the hot weather that has caused swelling across the state.
PMD reported isolated wet spells in several cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab as most of the plains of the state remained under the influence of severe heat and the mercury soared above 40°C in some cities. .
Weather Information: “The press service has informed that on May 28 (afternoon/night) a westerly wave may affect the upper part of the country.
According to the Met Office, the severe heat wave may subside during high tide if there is rain.
However, severe weather will continue in the central and southern parts of the country, namely Punjab and Sindh, where daytime temperatures are expected to be 3°C to 4°C above normal.
