A picture of a fish has gone viral on social media, which is typically never seen near the ocean surface during the day. Marine life experts from the NGO Condrik Tenerife spotted a Black Devil Anglerfish near the coast of Tenerife, Spain.
What’s special about this fish, you ask? It’s incredibly rare because it is usually found 200 to 2,000 meters below the ocean’s surface.
Marine expert Laia Valor discovered the fish on January 26 while researching a type of shark. She observed the Black Devil Fish swimming vertically at the ocean’s surface.
This marks the first time an adult Black Devil Fish has been seen in daylight on the ocean’s surface, at least according to the experts. Laia Valor mentioned that her team spent several hours with the fish before it passed away. Prior to this, only dead adult Black Devil Fish had been found near the surface.
Valor stated that this was an exceptionally rare experience, and we may never know why this fish ventured to the surface from such deep waters.
