SWAT: Educational experts have said that if facilities are provided in government schools for girls, more than twenty percent of girls can be equipped with good education.
Speakers said that girls are forced to go to school due to lack of facilities in Swat’s educational institutions, especially girls’ schools, or even girls from remote areas cannot go to school.
They expressed these views while addressing the educational workshop organized by non-governmental organization “Lasoona” in collaboration with the education department in the Kanju area of Tehsil Kabal in Swat district.
The workshop was attended by Planning Officer of Education Department Abdul Aziz Shaheen, District Education Officer Shamim Akhtar, SDEO Kabel Tehsil Nahid Akhtar, Project Manager of Lasoona Organization Barkat Ali, Headmistresses and teachers of several schools participated in the workshop.
The speakers said that girls are forced to go to school due to lack of facilities in Swat’s educational institutions, especially girls’ schools, or even girls from remote areas cannot go to school.
“The workshop was told that there is a severe shortage of clean water, washrooms and rooms in many schools. Due to lack of space and population visiting educational institutions, the education system is also affected.
Schools do not have playgrounds. The walls of some schools have collapsed or there is no boundary wall at all.”
The speakers emphasized that government institutions and non-government institutions should play their role in this regard.
Female Teachers participating in the workshop said that girls do not come to school due to poverty in remote areas. Because their parents cannot afford uniforms, shoes, books and school fees and even pocket money for girls.
“Because of this, more than twenty percent of girls are deprived of education.”
Education Department Planning Officer Abdul Aziz Shaheen said that every year the government conducts a special campaign for girls to enter school and it has achieved significant results.But still some schools lack facilities due to floods and natural calamities, which is being worked on.
Barkat Ali, the project manager of the non-governmental organization Lasoona, said that there are some difficulties. Which we can solve. Such as sanitation, supply of clean water, construction of latrines, construction of hand washing facilities, solar system will also be provided due to climate change.
So that the difficulties of girls coming to school will be reduced. An awareness campaign is being conducted for this.
He said that his organization is working to provide facilities to girls in several schools. To make this project sustainable, it has to be extended to other schools. By eliminating or reducing these difficulties, more and more girls will be able to enter school.
