Many of us enjoy at least one or two cups of coffee a day, but did you know that this simple pleasure might also add years to your life?
Recent research has provided evidence that, in addition to its other benefits, coffee may potentially contribute to a longer, healthier life.
A team from Coimbra University in Portugal reviewed 85 previous studies involving participants from Europe, America, Australia, and Asia, analyzing the relationship between coffee consumption and mortality rates.
The overall analysis reveals that drinking about three cups of coffee daily is associated with an average increase in life expectancy of 1.84 years. Regular consumption is also linked to better health and a lower likelihood of developing serious diseases.
Rodrigo, a neuroscientist at Coimbra University, stated that traditional medical recommendations often overlook the role of coffee in promoting healthy aging. Our review highlights this role.
He added that moderate, regular coffee consumption improves biological mechanisms that weaken with age.
