Once a housekeeper woman asked the housemaid:
“You don’t get tired of washing so many dishes? Isn’t it a shame to wash dishes for the family and also for those outside? And your family is big, so there must be more dishes?”
The housemaid replied:
“Madam! Come on, what about the dishes in our house…. The dishes become dirty for those who cook different types of food. We take meal with sauce or curry on bread. What about the use of utensils for the half-and-half bread….”
The single sentence of housemaid shook the conscience of the housekeeper and she started trembling due to fear.
“My Lord! I kept getting annoyed with this thing that why are the dishes dirty, why do I have to wash them. I never thought that even though I have food in my house, the dishes are getting dirty. I used to hate the sinks with the dishes, I was not grateful for the food eaten in these dishes. If I stop getting food, these dishes will remain clean… May Allah forgive me.”
She looked around, there were plates of biryani, quorma and many other recipes. Some were full, some were empty, which the housemaid was cleaning with great effort. There was everything present in her home and was abundance of every requirement of daily life. Today, these dishes didn’t seem dissolute to her but rather a blessing of the creator.
She thanked to Almighty for being blesses with every boon of life.
The housemaker penanced for her thankfulness. She filled two bowls of food and gave it to housemaid along with additional money.
She bowed before the Almighty Allah and offered optional prayers along with noon prayer to express thanks for being blessed with countless blessings.
