Following the directive of Federal Minister for Investment Board, Communications, and Privatization, Abdul Aleem Khan, a pilot project for a motorbike service for security and surveillance on motorways has been decided. The minister assigned the task of increasing patrolling and tightening security on motorways. Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that 30 to 35 motorbikes should patrol various sectors of the motorway simultaneously. In the first phase, the motorway police will start the bike service using their resources, and later, it will be expanded.
The federal minister instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA), motorway police, FWO, and district police to take joint actions to ensure security. He also emphasized the need for an effective strategy to prevent theft of the safety fences around the motorways. Additionally, he suggested amendments in legislation to enhance the powers of motorway police.
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed that motorway police must take more responsibility to ensure citizens’ safety. A mechanism should be established to make travel on motorways as secure as possible. Areas with frequent crimes and fence theft should be identified. In case of fence theft, the NHA officer and motorway police of that area will be held responsible.
The minister instructed that new fences be arranged in areas where the safety fences are broken or stolen. The IG Motorway, in coordination with local police, must ensure thorough follow-up on fence theft cases. The Federal Minister also directed the Secretary of Communications to submit a report on coordinated measures within a week.
