KURRAM: The conflict in Kurram district that erupted over land and ditch construction has now entered its fifth day. Intense gunbattle continues intermittently at four places across Upper, Lower and Central tehsils, with both sides targeting each other with various firearms, Express News reported. The frontline of the conflict was the Boshera area, where armed men from one faction attempted to build trenches, sparking clashes that escalated into an all-out battle. Police said eight more people lost their lives overnight, bringing the total to 21 in five days, with more than 30 others injured. Former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took cognizance of the incidents and directed the local administration and the tribal jirga to work urgently on the reconciliation process. Unverified sources indicate that the actual number of casualties and injuries is significantly higher than the reported figures. Reports indicate that a jirga has been convened at 10:00 today to discuss the ceasefire. Commissioner Kohat and District Police Officer also came to Parachinar to maintain peace and order. Violence has continued in Kurram district for several days now, with both sides using heavy and automatic weapons against each other. The recent round of fighting has resulted in numerous casualties and numerous injuries, underscoring the escalation of the conflict.
