KARACHI: Former captain and head coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi Daren Sammy has said that he is currently concentrating on the franchise and is not thinking about the coaching role of the Pakistan men’s team.
There are reports that the former all-rounder is among the contenders for the head coaching vacancy.
“Right now I am focusing on Peshawar Zalmi and coaching them, I am not focusing on anything including coaching the Pakistan team, I just want to focus on winning the title for Zalmi,” he said while talking to the media after the training session. on Sunday in Karachi.
Zalmi is the only side to have qualified for the PSL playoffs and Sammy credited the player with that.
“Qualifying for the playoffs in every PSL season is a testament to the performance of the players. Players like Hasan Ali, Asghar Ali and Wahab Riaz have rendered a lot of service and contributed.”
“Babar Azam is leading the team now and the players are doing well under his guidance. Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammad Haris and Saim Ayub are the future,” he added.
Sammy mentioned that he tries to give his best as a coach, just as he did as a player. “Peshawar Zalmi is like a family to me and I have happy memories of this team.
Meanwhile, Sammy wishes to see Zalmi play their home matches in Peshawar.
“I want to see how PSL matches are organized in Peshawar. I have been there many times and have many friends,” he concluded.
It should be noted that Peshawar Zalmi have qualified for PSL 9 Playoffs. They are currently second in the points table with one more league match to go.
