ISLAMABAD: According to Executive Director Pakistan-China Institute, Lahore Mustafa Haider Syed, the CPEC is significantly transforming Pakistan’s IT landscape, playing a pivotal role in nurturing a digital economy, generating substantial employment opportunities, elevating local communities, and attracting substantial investments.
Hundreds of IT projects have been completed or are in the works as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). According to him, all of these projects are critical to the development of the IT sector.
The optical fiber line, which is scheduled to enter Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) via the Khunjerab border, will traverse Pakistan, connecting Mansehra district in KP to Muzaffarabad, and then to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This large network will provide digital connectivity throughout the country.
When asked about long-term IT initiatives between China and Pakistan, he stated, “An agreement has been reached for the establishment of the ‘Pak-China Science, Technology, Commerce, and Logistic Park’ near Islamabad.” The park, which spans 500 hectares, is expected to cost $1.5 billion in total over the course of ten years. The entire project will be funded by China.”
The Special Communication Organisation (SCO) has improved the existing network and launched 3G/4G services in Gilgit Baltistan with technical assistance from China. He believes that this breakthrough will improve the nation’s broadband connectivity.
He emphasized that the existence of 3G/4G services in remote locations not only provides easy access to the internet but also creates work prospects for local youngsters, particularly women.
Mustafa Hider, expressing gratitude for the CPEC collaboration, stated that the anticipated value of Pakistan’s IT industry was expected to reach $10 billion by 2025.
Currently, the country is home to over 2,000 software research and development centers, making it the world’s fourth-largest hub for independent IT practitioners.
