In the Indian state of Karnataka, a surge in cow theft incidents has prompted the government to consider extreme measures, including publicly shooting those caught stealing cows.
According to Indian media reports, the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka has been witnessing a significant increase in cow theft cases, causing distress among cattle owners. The issue has become so severe that a state minister has suggested the possibility of shooting cow thieves in public as a deterrent.
The local minister stated that if such incidents continue in the district, he would order the public execution of those involved in cow theft. “We drink cow’s milk every day, and this is an animal we hold dear and treat with love,” he said. He added that the police have been instructed to take strict action against anyone involved, regardless of their identity.
The minister’s comments reflect growing frustration over the inability to curb these thefts, and the proposed measures have sparked debate over the appropriateness of such extreme punishments in response to theft.
