ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Monday issued a production order against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
The court issued their production order on an application filed by two bail applicants in cases related to the forgery of Toshakhana donation receipts, while Khan also filed a bail application in the May 9 violent protests case.
District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the production order and directed the Adiala Jail Warden to produce the couple before the court on April 4.
The decision came after another district and sessions court last week approved an application to produce Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in court and ordered the authorities to arrange for the production of the politicians on April 20.
A petition seeking their production was heard by Justice Mureed Abbas in connection with the parliamentary attack case against Khan and others.
Khan’s lawyer Naeem Panjotha argued during the hearing that the superintendent of Adiala jail had disobeyed the order of any court. He insisted the court to ensure that jail officials follow orders and produce Khan.
The prime minister’s former counsel asked the court to order Khan to be produced in the courtroom.
“The Supreme Court has ruled that a meeting with a political leader can be held via video link.”
Panjotha added that the internet was working in Adiala jail but only in the case of the PTI founder it stopped working.
“Superintendent of Adiala Jail is afraid to bring PTI founder on video link,” the lawyer said.
