Islamabad: Despite the priorities set by the IG and DIG, corruption and touting remain rampant at the Sangjani Police Station. Open demands for bribes from dumper owners after custody release, along with private touts cashing in on personal surety arrangements, have come to light. Reports reveal that private touts provide personal sureties for four to five cases daily, prompting citizens to demand an investigation from the IG Islamabad.
Details: Alleged corruption at Sangjani Police Station is reportedly carried out in three stages. In the first stage, longstanding Motorway Police officers, allegedly in collusion with Sangjani Police or deceiving higher authorities, conduct a symbolic crackdown on overloaded dumpers once a week. A significant number of cases are filed against vehicles at the Sangjani Police Station.
In the second stage, the police connect dumper owners with private touts, who persuade drivers and owners to accept personal surety arrangements. These touts set a fee covering personal surety, custody release, and other formalities. Sources indicate the total amount reaches approximately 30,000 PKR.
After all transactions are completed, the third stage begins. During custody release, the touts abandon the owners, which appears to be part of a preplanned scheme involving both the police and local touts. At this point, the police reportedly demand an additional 10,000 PKR before releasing custody.
Citizens and dumper owners have called on the IG Islamabad to investigate the tout mafia and bribery allegations at the Sangjani Police Station.
