ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasized the need for a constitutional court to reform the judicial system. In an interview with representatives of the lawyers’ fraternity, he emphasized that judicial reforms are a long-term demand of the PPP. Bilawal praised the lawyers for standing up to the dictatorship and recalled their role in defeating the Musharraf regime. He noted that his mother Banazir Bhutto had warned against politicizing the judiciary as it would harm public interests. He emphasized that the Constitutional Court should focus on the interpretation that the system of appointment of judges was formalized by the 18th amendment. Bilawal criticized the lack of transparency in the appointment of judges and called for reforms in the process. He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfill the promises made in the Chartered of Democracy and ensure swift and fair justice for the public. He called on lawyers to prepare for the ongoing fight for judicial reforms.
