LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the pressing issue of food wastage and stressed that it is a major global challenge that negatively affects economy and environment. In his message on Sunday’s International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day, the CM stresses the need for urgent action to tackle this critical issue. The CM pointed out that millions of people around the world suffer from hunger while millions of tonnes of food go to waste. She noted that Pakistan also faces some degree of food loss and scarcity. The Chief Minister said that reducing food wastage is not only a moral and religious duty but also essential for effective resource management. She emphasized the need for careful planning to avoid wasting resources, which could help support those affected by hunger. CM Maryam Nawaz has called upon the Punjab government for a massive awareness campaign to tackle food wastage. She singled out the school feeding program in Punjab as a historic initiative in the fight against nutritional deficiencies among children. She reiterated the importance of reasonable food use and urged communities to appreciate the value of food. She called for joint efforts to protect Pakistan’s natural resources.
