Lahore: Panjab Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the first complete electric bus service in Pakistan on Friday. While driving on the bus she was informed about the Minister of Service for Transport Bilal Akbar. The bus can operate 250 kilometers for one charge. Nine charging stations were set up to recharge the batteries. It will have a seating capacity of 30 and can accommodate 80 passengers. The electric bus will have separate sections for women. Cameras have been installed to avoid harassment incidents. Initially, 27 electric buses will be operated on a 21 kilometer route from the station to the green city via Queen’s Road, Mozang, Ferozepur Road, Campus Bridge and Canal. The bus leaves every nine minutes. Minister Akbar said 17,000 passengers will be able to travel daily in the first Lahore electric bus service. The bus service will be officially launched in mid -February. Food can be paid through digital wallets and digital cards. Universal traffic cards will also be issued later. He started training for 70 drivers. The main minister ordered the installation of solar fans and water coolers at the bus stops. It also ordered steps to set up electric charging stations in cooperation with the private sector.
