Haikou: Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong said it is important to advance key agricultural technologies in key areas and accelerate efforts to increase self-sufficiency and strength in the seed sector.
Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was speaking on a research visit to South China’s Hainan island province from Monday to Wednesday.
During his visit, Liu visited other breeding facilities and laboratories to learn about the conservation and use of germplasm resources, as well as the propagation and use of new varieties.
He chaired the symposium and heard views and suggestions from the government sector, regions and experts on scientific and technological innovation in the seed sector.
Liu emphasized the need to improve the protection of germplasm resources, increase the strategic scientific and technological strength of the seed industry, strengthen the key role of seed business in technological innovation, and increase international exchange in this field.
