Beijing: Public toilets in China have launched high-tech “health screening” urinals that can analyze urine for various health markers and cost less than $3.
The futuristic device has recently started appearing in some men’s public bathrooms in major Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, claiming to be able to urinate online for just 20 yuan, about $2.76.
Shanghai-based documentary director Christian Pietersen-Clausen wrote about the innovation in the now-viral X-Class: “A private company offers a urine test for RMB 20. Of course, I tried it.”
In the episode, Pietersen-Clausen revealed privacy concerns, saying he hadn’t had a health checkup in a while and was “more concerned knowing that everything is fine and the convenience is unbeatable.”
“Whole process is as easy as you thought. I paid via WeChat and I got the result before I got off the escalator,” said Pietersen-Clausen, next to a picture of a high-tech machine showing a man looking into a urinal with writing in Mandarin.
The results, which he says are calcium-free, are “irrefutable.”
Then Pietersen-Clausen stumbled upon another urine sample from the health checker and performed a second test that reported an increase in calcium levels.
“Companies seem to be installing them all over China, and I think early detection of health problems is important,” he said.
Petersen-Clausen also shared a photo she gave that shows the machine checking things like vitamin C, creatinine, white blood cells, glucose and more.
He added: My Chinese wife doesn’t care about all this and is surprised that this tweet is so popular. At least now I can prove I’m not the only weirdo who finds this stuff interesting. “
According to the Bastille Post, similar high-tech facilities have been found in quick service areas such as shopping malls in China.
Located in a shopping mall in Beijing’s Fengtai District, the health checkup has quick and accurate health test results in just two minutes.
However, the disclaimer of the device says: “This product is not a medical device and the results cannot be used as a basis for diagnosis. It is used as a reference for health information only.”
